She came to the Capital city as a teen, right after graduation. She enrolled and completed 2 years at Draughan Business College. She was swept off her feet by a dashing young man with wavy black hair and a bright smile. After marrying John Warren, they lived in several locations around the state before settling permanently in South Jackson for over 40 years. During that time, they reared 5 children. Judy Matthews (Jim) of Baton Rouge, both deceased, Mike Warren (Suzi) of Copperas Cove, TX, Pam Berryhill (Daryl) also deceased, Kay Hodges (Richard) of Terry and Rebecca Warren (Greg Nettles) of Wesson. These unions produced 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She had a lengthy career in sales for 2 major retailers in MS. Later, she worked her last 10 years in Telecommunications for the state before her retirement. During her retirement years, she fought and survived 2 forms of cancer through treatments and many prayers.
After the passing of John Warren, she married Bill Tanner, a long-time friend from South Jackson. During their nearly 20 years together, she welcomed 2 more grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She attended Alta Woods Baptist Church for the majority of her life in Jackson, nearly 70 years. She participated in Sunday School, book studies and the Joy Singers.
In her last face-to-face conversation with her children, it was crucial for her to express love for the Savior and to assure them she was ready when her time came. She acknowledged all the blessings she received during her nearly 94 years.
She will be laid to rest next to John Warren, father of their children. The service/burial will be Thursday, May 7, at Lakewood Cemetery, Clinton Blvd., Jackson.
