Kermit H. Bridges, 91, passed away April l2, 20ll at Mississippi Baptist Memorial
Hospital in Jackson, MS. He was born on October 11, l919 in Montgomery County MS
to Rufus and Lela Bridges. He was born in a family of ten children, 6 sisters and 3
brothers. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Flora, MS.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 14,2011, from 5 to 8 P. M. at Wright and
Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony, Madison, MS with service at First Baptist
Church Flora, MS on Friday, April 15, 20ll at l2:00 and visitation one hour preceding
the service at 12:00 with Brother Joe Cole officiating and Brother Jason Dillon and
Brother Dewayne Parker assisting.
He gave his life to the Lord and lived each day preparing to be in heaven with the Lord
one day. He wanted to make sure his family and extended family knew the Lord and was
preparing their lives to live with him in Heaven. Most importantly, he was a loving
husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was an honest hard working man, a
kind and generous man and was respected by all who knew him. He loved his family and
was dedicated to his church. He served as deacon in several of the churches he attended.
He was a farmer, cattleman, and served in the Army during World War II. He farmed for
many years and ran a dairy in Merigold, MS. He moved to Flora, MS in 1962 where he
farmed and raised cattle until he retired in 2005. The girls made him sell his cows
because he fell off a tractor while feeding them and fractured his back.
Survivors include his wife of 8 years, Martha Holley Bridges and daughters, Linda
Williamson (Larry), Jewel Odom (Tommy), Ruth Hammack (Lee), and Robin Prestage
(Bill) all of Flora, MS.; stepchildren, Dale Tolbert of Philadelphia, MS (La) and Sheila
Gill (Keith) of Flora. Grandchildren, Celeste Williamson of Flora, Tracy Lavey of Flora,
Michael Odom (Christy) of Madison, Matt Hammack (Cathy) of Flora, Allyson Mize
(Bubba) of Oxford and Jonathan Kimbrell (Tatum) of Ridgeland. Great grandchildren,
Mary Blair Odom, Brady Odom, Meredith Odom all of Madison, Mary Kristin Lavey of
Flora, Eli Hammack of Flora, Trustin Mize and Kruse Mize of Oxford. and Ashton
Kimbrell of Ridgeland. Two sisters, Thelma Robbins of New Hebron, MS and Beatty
Morgan of Richland, MS and a number of step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bill Bridges, Elwin Bridges and
Delma Bridges; and four sisters, Wilma Chandler, Lorene Chapman, Margie Adams, and
Avanelle Evans. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Christine Ray
Bridges and wife of 9 years,Viola Hemphill Cannon Bridges. He was also preceded in
death by a stepson, Austin Tolbert, (Philadelphia, MS)
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Flora Building
Fund.
