Kevin was born on August 13, 1985, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Mario Summerlin and Cheryl McHann Summerlin Birch. His parents chose the name Kevin—meaning “kind” and “gentle”—because it felt right from the very beginning, and it proved to be so fitting. He carried a kind, gentle, calming, and loving spirit throughout his life. Kevin attended First Presbyterian Day School and Jackson Prep High School, where he also played football. He continued his education at Holmes Community College, earning an Associate’s Degree.
From an early age, Kevin had a natural talent for technology, and he turned that gift into a devoted career in IT. He began his professional journey at Pileum Corporation as a Systems Engineer and Consultant, later joining Bomgar Corporation as a Product Engineer. Most recently, he served the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services as a VMware Systems Specialist (Cloud Architect), a role in which he took great pride and excelled with dedication.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Erin Summerlin, his parents, Mario Summerlin and Cheryl McHann Birch Summerlin, and by his beloved 9-year-old daughter, Ada Summerlin, who was the light of his life. He is also survived by his lifelong best friend, David Clark, whom he loved as a brother. Kevin was preceded in death by his stepfather, Christopher Birch, and his grandparents, James C. McHann, Sr. and Faye Fetcher McHann.
Kevin’s quiet strength, intelligence, and generous heart touched the lives of those who knew and loved him. Though his time with us was far too short, Kevin’s love, kindness, and gentle spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
