

Kimberly L Smith, age 64, of Lorton VA passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021. She leaves behind her loving sister, Nicki Beckham, nephew Heath Beckham (Jamey) and niece April Hendrixson (Troy) along with her great niece and nephews Ellie, John Henry, and Luke Beckham. She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd R and Jacqueline Smith. Kim grew up in Jackson, MS and graduated from MSU and completed graduate work at Colorado State University. During her high school years she developed a passion for showing quarter horses and became an accomplished equestrian participating in Quarter Horse shows across the country while winning several national titles.
She was a dedicated public servant who worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers becoming a nationally recognized member of the Corps of Engineers headquarters. She began her career in the Mobile District’s Engineering Division but later moved to the South Atlantic Division Civil Works Project Management Office, working on many of the region’s largest civil works projects such as Savannah Harbor, Brunswick Harbor and Cerritos Dam in Puerto Rico. She joined the Corps of Engineers headquarters in Washington and quickly became a national leader. Kim was primarily responsible for partnership agreements initiating billions of dollars in water resources infrastructure projects to protect communities
from floods and coastal storms, to improve our federal navigation ports and to restore our degraded ecosystems.
Services for Kim will be visitation at Parkway Funeral Home Ridgeland at 1 o’clock on Saturday, July 3rd with a graveside service following at 2 o’clock. Any memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 1104 Ireland Way Birmingham, AL 35205
