Surrounded by family and friends at her home, Laura Ziegler Jones, 67, of Ridgeland, MS, passed away on July 31, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Parkway Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 2. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church Jackson with visitation beginning at 10:00 am followed by the service at 11:00 on Wednesday, August 3rd.
Laura was born in Worchester, Massachusetts on July 20, 1949, to the late William H. Degnan and Mary Jane Degnan of Ridgeland, Mississippi. While her father was on active duty with the Navy, she had the opportunity to live in England, New York, North Carolina, and finally in Chicago. She graduated from high school in Homewood-Flossmoor, Illinois, and the family returned to Atlanta to be nearer her grandparents. It was there she met her future husband, Dr. Thomas L. Jones, Jr. and they were married in 1978. Moving to Clinton, Mississippi, he established a dental practice and Laura helped meet and greet the patients. She also enjoyed working many years at Interiors Market, Fresh Cut Catering, and Hearron’s Fine Gifts.
Laura is survived by her husband, Thomas L. Jones, Jr., daughter, Laura Allyson Runnels (Scott) and son, Sydney Lenville Jones (Rachel), mother, Mary Jane Degnan, sisters Pam Langford (Gary), Nancy Smith (Carey), Holly Casey (Peter), and brother Tim (Rhonda). She was the proud grandmother of four beautiful granddaughters, Lily Runnels, Emmaline Runnels, Ava Jones, and Ella Jones.
