Mrs. Vernon was a native of Jackson, attending Power, Bailey, Murrah and Ole Miss. She lived most of her life in Madison, where she loved to fish and enjoy the beautiful sunsets over the water at Lake Caroline where she and her husband lived for many years. She was an avid reader and gardener. She loved planting her flowers and always felt God’s hand at their beauty.

She had many friends and felt so blessed by their love and support through the years. She was an optician and manager of Lakeland Optical for 28 years until her retirement in 2005. Since 1968, Mrs. Vernon had been a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lemma Gordon Grantham and Malcolm Kenneth Grantham. She is survived by her husband Marvin, the love of her life, of Madison, her cherished children, son Eugene Sherwood (Gene) Vernon, daughter, Laura Vernon Meacham and her husband Clint, son Kenneth Marvin (Ken) Vernon and his wife Amy, and her precious beloved granddaughter, Presley Ann Vernon, all of Brandon. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Gerald (Jerry) Vernon, nephew Leigh Vernon and wife Leah and twin great nieces, Julia Catherine and Anna Davis Vernon and niece Kathy Chapman of Hazlehurst. Her family was the most important thing to her and she thanked her Lord every day for the gift of love that they shared.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the music ministry of Christ United Methodist Church, 6000 Old Canton Road, Jackson, MS 39211.
