Lovingly known as “Paw Paw,” Wayne was born in Johnson City, Tennessee on February 10, 1939 to the late Clyde Evans and Hazel Evans Gross. He was a graduate of Science Hill High School and the University of Memphis where he was the co-captain of the football team, an All-Time Letterman and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Wayne was a partner of BPI, Jackson, MS retiring in 2001. He loved playing golf, fishing and had a passion for duck hunting.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Judy Wooten Evans; ex-wife Patricia Evans; his brother, Jerry Evans, Johnson City, TN; sister, Judy Sloan, Brady, TX; stepbrother, James (Gladys) Souder; daughters, Leslie (Justyn) Dixon, Leigh Ann Evans (Ricci), Karri (Trevor) Drake; sons, David (Reesa) Evans, Ronald (Theresa) Wooten; six grandchildren, Logan (Rebecca) Drake, Will Drake, Mary Palmer and Jake Wooten, Mary Reid and Sims Dixon; a great-granddaughter, Ella Drake and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob Evans and Norman Evans; half sister, Paulette Mann and half brother, Ronald Gross.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 2, 2019 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS at 11:30 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
