Linda was born May 13, 1946, the daughter of Phinis and Mamie Kendall of Shelby, MS. She was the youngest of four siblings. She graduated from Shelby High School in 1965 and went on to obtain two degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS, culminating with a Masters in Special Education under Dr. Basil Garr. She met her cherished husband, the late Warner Michael Lindsey, through a mutual friend. They were married on August 31, 1968, in Shelby, MS, and were married for nearly 34 years until her husband’s passing in 2002. They established their home in Hattiesburg, MS, raising three sons and pursuing their calling in the classroom as educators. Linda was a teacher of Special Education at North Forrest High School in Hattiesburg for over 25 years, moving to Madison, MS, following retirement to be closer to her sons, David and Steve.
In addition to her husband and parents, Linda was preceded in death by her youngest son, Tad Albert Lindsey, her brother Thomas Wilburn (TW) Kendall, and her sister Maxine Kendall Timms.
She is survived by her brother, James (Slim) Kendall of Boyle, MS; her son David Michael Lindsey (Suzanne) of Canton, MS; her son Stephen Kendall Lindsey (Keli) of Water Valley, MS; her grandchildren Jordan Kelly Lindsey Stidham (Kirk) of Columbia, SC, Ryan Michael Lindsey of Canton, MS, Anastasia Katherine Lindsey of Madison, MS, Michael Carter Lindsey of Canton, MS, Aaron David Lindsey (Charlie) of Canton, MS, Lillian Keil Lindsey of Water Valley, MS, Maris Lake Lindsey of Water Valley, MS, Lucian Quinn Lindsey of Water Valley, MS, Landin (Lindsey) Roberts of St. Petersburg, FL, and a large number of nieces and nephews treasured by their “Aunt Linda.”
She was a long-time member of 38th Avenue Baptist Church and, later in life, Unity Baptist Church, both in Hattiesburg, MS. Most recently, Linda was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Madison, MS. You could count on hearing her lovely alto voice with each hymn. She sang the parts and knew all the words. Even as her memory faded, old hymns would come easily once the tune began. Singing the melodies and the truth in the words would soothe her and bring joy to her eyes. Her gift of teaching extended to children’s Sunday School classes and VBS, and she loved serving the Lord in this manner. While raising her boys, her time was spent at the ball field. It didn’t matter what sport was being played. If one of her boys was playing or practicing, she was there and working just as hard as they were as she cheered them on. She was the original Baseball/Soccer/Football Momma. She was devoted to and involved in whatever interested her boys. She was coach of the first soccer team at North Forrest High School, drafted into service by her middle son. More than one person shared a memory of “Coach Lindsey” following the soccer team in her station wagon, urging them on while they ran laps around the parking lot.
The family would like to thank Keesha Hathorn and Deanna Davis for their loving care and companionship. Mom had deep affection for you both and was thankful for your friendship.
