Lisa was born on March 13, 1959, in Starkville, MS, and grew up in the Mississippi Delta in Belzoni. She was born on Friday the 13th, which made it a great day instead of an unlucky day for her family. Lisa is survived by her devoted husband, Rob Lake; her parents, Dan and Frances Shipp; and her sister, Jane Harris of El Paso, Arkansas, as well as various nieces and nephews and many other family and friends who will sadly miss her.
Lisa attended Mississippi State University from 1977 to 1981. She then worked at Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance from 1982 until 1985 before realizing she had a passion for helping people through physical therapy. She then attended the two-year program at UMMC School of Physical Therapy.
After her UMMC Physical Therapy School graduation, Lisa began her accomplished career as an exceptional and devoted physical therapist who cared deeply for her patients. She worked at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, Jackson, MS, from 1986 until 1993 as both a staff physical therapist and was called by her department to be the director, helping many people improve the quality of their lives. She also worked from 2017 until early 2020 at Joy CARE, Inc., Madison, MS, where she ministered to elderly patients displaying care and concern. She worked for various other nursing homes and home care businesses as a physical therapist through the years, always showing her compassionate love for everyone she helped. Her most recent employment was as a part-time physical therapist with The Strength Center Physical Therapy, Flowood, MS.
Being a former track and basketball athlete in high school, Lisa loved all sports and attended every game in season that she could at Mississippi State University. She was the president of the Central Mississippi Alumni Association, Mississippi State University, for the year 2013. It was a family joke that she actually married Rob, an Ole Miss graduate, since MS State and Ole Miss are such rivals. But they made it work beautifully.
Lisa also had a passion for helping rescue animals and recently lost her beloved Labrador, Rudy, to an illness, but she gave him a happy and loving home while she had him. In lieu of flowers, Lisa would be so happy if you would make a memorial contribution in her memory to the Mississippi State University Veterinary School or to your local animal rescue or shelter.
Lisa was a dedicated and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, MS, and her Christian faith was evident in every part of her life.
Memorials can be sent, in honor of Lisa, to First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, MS; The Mississippi State University Department of Athletics; or St. Dominic Hospital, Jackson, MS ER and/or ICU Departments.
