Born on January 17, 1934, in East Orange, New Jersey, to parents, Orville William Freeman and Marion Elizabeth Palmer Freeman, Lorinda was raised in New York City until the age of 8. In 1942, Lorinda and her family moved to Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, where she graduated from University of Illinois High School in 1951, then graduated with a B.S. in Occupational Therapy in 1956 from the University of Illinois. On January 14, 1956, she married Stanley Clay Russell. Mrs. Russell moved to Mississippi in 1958 and finally settled down in Jackson in 1962. The main thing Lorinda wanted to be remembered for is that “I love God and I’ve been a born-again Christian since 1982. The whole purpose of my life is to please the Lord.” Mrs. Russell was known for her larger-than-life, outgoing personality, her love of animals, particularly cats; and her generous heart and commitment to a wide range of charitable causes throughout her long lifetime.
Lorinda is survived by her husband, Stanley Clay Russell; her children, Jocelyn Miller, Jennifer Crowson, and Jonathan Russell; and her 3 grandchildren, Keaton Miller, Alex Crowson, and Danneka Miller.
A memorial service honoring and celebrating her life will be on Saturday, May 24th, 2014 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland at 2:30 p.m.
