Louis Edward Lavallee, age 77, passed away late afternoon on August 8, 2025, in the presence of family. He enjoyed listening to classical and a cappella music, hearing news about his children and grandchildren, sending cards to all his family, and— before his stroke in 2013— reading, riding his bike, and studying Hebrew and Greek.
Louis was born on July 16, 1948, in Laconia, NH, to Richard and Priscilla Lavallee. He was the second of ten children, growing up in Center Harbor, NH.
Louis met Martha Simons at Gordon College, and they married on July 10, 1971. He taught high school math at Lexington High School, moved to Germany, where he was stationed in the Army, before returning to the U.S to finish a Master of Engineering from Harvard University. Then, he and Martha moved to New Hampshire, where their first two children were born. In 1980, the family relocated to Jackson, Mississippi, for him to attend Reformed Theological Seminary, where he received a Master of Divinity, and their next three children were born. He worked as an Environmental Engineer for over 35 years, first in New Hampshire, then in Mississippi, until his stroke in 2013.
Louis faithfully served at Westminster Presbyterian Church and, in turn, Providence Presbyterian Church as an elder and Sunday school teacher. He also faithfully led prayer groups for the ministry in Japan, visited the elderly, shut-ins, and nursing homes, providing prayer, singing, and fellowship. He was a strong supporter of his wife as she held Good News Club meetings for the children in their neighborhood for several years, and faithfully picked up trash each day in their Queens, West Jackson neighborhood. His good stewardship of his home and each neighborhood he and Martha lived in continued even as his stroke limited his physical capabilities.
Louis was a lifelong educator. He homeschooled his five children, teaching them middle and high school classes before going to work; he encouraged them to curate musical talents, and attempted to teach them all Greek, Latin, Hebrew, and Systematic Theology. Outside of the home, he taught New Testament Greek at Belhaven University.
Louis is survived by his children, Abi (Roger) Lowther, Laura Christel Lavallee, Elizabeth (Ashley) Abraham, Virginia (Thrinicko) Beaboa, Paul (Joy) Lavallee, and son-in-law, Cal Horlings; his grandchildren, Aidan, Eastin, Coen, and Kaizen Lowther, Kingsley and Rio Horlings, Esther, Bethany, and Arianna Abraham, Le-Manific & LeRoi-Louis Thrinicko; and his siblings Dick(Kate) Lavallee, Ron Lavallee, Phil Lavallee, Floretta (Ken) Duguay, Roland (Sally) Lavallee, Russell (Suzanna) Lavallee, Marjorie Lavallee and Rosemary Lavallee.
He was preceded in death by his wife Martha Lavallee, his parents, Richard and Priscilla Lavallee, granddaughters, Rebekah and Lydia Abraham, and brother Denmark [Duane] Lavallee.
A visitation for Louis will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Pkwy, Ridgeland, MS 39157, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM.
Committal Service will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Newton Veterans Cemetery, 248 Honor Circle, Newton, MS 39345.
