

Virginia Louise Nettles McCurley, lovingly known as “Skeet,” joined her beloved husband, Doug, in their heavenly home on the morning of August 10, 2025.
Born on November 27, 1932, in Gloster, Mississippi, Louise was the daughter of Walter and Christine Nettles. She graduated from Gloster High School and, on July 20, 1956, married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Melvin Douglas McCurley.
Louise was an exceptional cook, best known for her famous chicken pot pie and delicious coconut cake. She loved entertaining, and her home was always a place where everyone felt welcome and loved. A devoted member of Forest Hill United Methodist Church, she faithfully served her congregation and community for over 50 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna McAlpin (Ron); her grandchildren, Jennifer McCurley and Shane Mitchell (Morgan); and her bonus grandchildren, Todd McAlpin, Patrick McAlpin (Christina), and Roxi Miller (Skye). She also leaves behind her bonus great-grandchildren: Amber White (Hunter), Chase McAlpin, Christopher McAlpin, Merrick McAlpin, Murphy McAlpin, Fallen Miller, Braylen Miller, Bryson Miller, and Hunter Simmons; and one great-great-grandson, Isaiah White.
Louise was preceded in death by her son, Brian McCurley, and her brother, Robert Nettles.
A celebration of Louise’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS 39157. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
Louise will be remembered for her warmth, faith, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
