
Don was born November 15, 1928 to Manson Seal Turner and Maude Turner in Pleasanton, TX. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne Cole Bass Turner; sons, John L. Bass and James M. Turner; and daughter Deborah Anne Turner Sindewald. He was a doting grandfather of five grandchildren: Dawn Bass; John, Laurel, and Travis Sindewald; and Ivy Turner. Also, he is survived by his brother, James M. Turner, and his wife, Mary Ann Turner.
Don graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1946. Then, he earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in biology at Baylor University. In 1951, he entered graduate school at the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis, TN where he earned a PhD in physiology. In 1955, he joined the faculty of the University of Mississippi Medical School as Associate Professor of Surgery, Research. He was later appointed Full Professor of Surgery, Research, and Physiology. He served as chairman of the admissions committee of the medical school for 11 years.
A memorial service will be held at Parkway Funeral Home, Saturday, November 22nd at 3 P.M. Visitation to start at 2 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ridgeland Hospice Ministries.
