Margie was born on November 16, 1925. She was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church of Madison and was a faithful and devoted Christian.
She cherished her life as a wife, mother, & homemaker. When her three sons were grown, she started work in retail at Kennington’s, then went on to work at Fields on Capitol Street in downtown Jackson where she was a stylist to many. She loved fashion and style.
As the family matriarch, Margie thoroughly enjoyed cooking and entertaining. For at least 50 years she hosted a huge Sunday dinner for her three sons Larry, Kenny, and Rickey Joe and their families weekly and annual Thanksgiving lunch, Christmas Eve dinner, and Easter lunch/egg hunts as well. She would use her best dinnerware, crystal, perfectly polished silver, fresh flowers, and pressed table cloths & napkins. She always made the most delicious homemade desserts, and no one could ever fry chicken better! She had her home beautifully decorated inside and out for each season and never tired of the work it took to make a beautiful meal for her family.
Her grandchildren would love to stay over on Friday nights because they knew the night would include lots of fun & fellowship. She would move the furniture so everyone could dance; she taught them all how to jitterbug.
She and her neighbors took turns hosting weekly afternoon coffee & dessert. She and her husband, Cecil, and their friends would cook out on the weekends or go out for catfish, and they also vacationed together.
She adored working in her yard and flower beds. She won yard of the month in her neighborhood at least twice. She also kept busy with church luncheons and activities, volunteering at New Stage Theater & Thalia Mara Hall with her friends. She also enjoyed shopping, lunches, and the theater.
Every morning of her life up until her final months, she would wake up, dress, and be in full make-up by 9 am. She was always ready to go and do whatever.
She was a very strong, kind, giving, and Godly woman. She adored her family more than anything and would drop anything for them... except maybe her Thursday afternoon beauty shop appointment which was considered top priority.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Luther & Mamie Lucas, her husband, Cecil Simmons and her middle son, Sgt Rickey Joe Simmons, brother, Roy Lucas (Bobbie) and two sisters, Bonnie Myers (Lester) and Etoil Neal (Wesley).
She is survived by sons, Larry Simmons (Connie) and Kenny Simmons; grandchildren, Angel Simmons Matthews, Lucas Simmons (Jessica), McKenzie Simmons, Pam Boyd (Garrett), Ronnie Simmons (Staci), and Suzanne Simmons Walters (Blake); great grand children, Cole, Colton, Hunter, Karris, Kennedy, Leah, Reece, Ross, Tanner, Trent, Trevor, Tyler, and William; as well as nine great, great grandchildren.
There will be a private graveside service for family at Lakewood Memorial Park South on Wednesday September 1st.
