Marguerite Pritchett Logan was born September 9, 1918 in Itta Bena, Sunflower County, Mississippi to Milas B. & Fannie L. Pritchett. She married Charles (Charlie) Logan on March 5, 1939 in Hollandale, MS. Their first daughter Joyce was born the next year. After Charles served in the Pacific in WWII, they moved to Canton, MS where he opened a barber shop. After their second daughter Lisa was born, they moved to Old Canton Road in Jackson, and Charlie opened the Logan Barber Shop in Maywood Mart. They lived in this home and were active at Colonial Heights Baptist Church for over 50 years. After 71 years of marriage, Charlie died in 2010, and Marguerite moved to a retirement community in Opelika, AL where she made new friends, and enjoyed reading and participating with Joyce’s book club, watching Little House, race driving the electric cart down the aisles at Walmart, and eating at the local buffet. She often reminded us “If I just had my car, I could go to Walmart myself!” She enjoyed visits from Mississippi family and friends, especially her nieces and nephews.
How can 106 years of living be summed up in a few paragraphs? Once Charlie retired, they enjoyed travelling all over the U.S and world together. Marguerite survived 2 pandemics, 3 wars, the depression years, 19 presidential elections, several hurricanes and a tornado 3 houses down. She rarely missed her standing Friday hair appointment at Brock’s Beauty Salon. She was honored as the oldest resident in Opelika at age 100. She never met a stranger and made dear friends over the years…too many to count!
Marguerite passed away peacefully on Valentine’s Day only to be greeted (and hugged) by Charlie, her grandson Jason, her parents, siblings and a host of friends. Survivors include daughters Joyce (Donald) and Lisa (Brandt), Grandchildren Becky Brendon (Mindy), and Annie, 6 Great-Grandchildren, and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren, Sister-in-law Rene Brock, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank her dear friend Rachella, and the staff at Arbor Springs and South Alabama Hospice for their unlimited kindness shown to Mom.
