Mark W Holland

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am.

He was the son of the late John Dale Holland Sr. and Sara Jean Jones Holland of Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sherry Bufkin Holland; his son, Mark Whitaker Holland, Jr. (Whit); his daughter, Lauren Holland Williamson and her husband Ben; two grandchildren, Holland and Parker Williamson; and two sisters, Sherry Holland Rula and Sara Holland Cox. He is predeceased by his brother, John Dale Holland, Jr. (Skipper).

Mark spent his early youth in Vicksburg where his love of golf and football started at a young age at the encouragement of his father. He also loved hunting and fishing at the family’s lake house on Thompson Lake in Vicksburg. Just prior to his 9th grade school year, the family moved to Jackson where he continued playing golf and football. Mark was a member of the first football team at Jackson Prep under Coach Jack Carlisle, who had coached him previously at Murrah. He was also a member of the track team at Prep. Mark continued his love of playing golf until his health prevented him from doing so.

Mark continued his education at the University of Mississippi where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. After college, he worked as a petroleum landman for many years - work he really enjoyed. His last years before retiring were spent representing manufacturers of domestic goods selling their products to Wal-Marts and discount stores.

Mark loved spending time in New Orleans eating beignets with his grandchildren and watching Parker throw a football and Holland performing ballet. He also enjoyed vacationing in St. Maarten, a place he and Sherry visited many times. Mark was an avid Ole Miss fan and a devout follower of the New Orleans Saints.

Mark will be remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit and his ability to make us all laugh. We know he is now bringing laughter to the heavens above.
