Mary was born on September 15, 1941, in Havana, Cuba, to Ricardo Antonio Sirven and Caridad Martinez Sirven. She spent her early years in Camagüey, Cuba. At the age of 14, Mary traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas, where she attended Mount St. Mary Academy for several years. During this time, she learned the English language and grew in her Catholic faith. Prior to graduating from high school, her family left Cuba and relocated to Miami, Florida, where Mary attended and graduated from Miami Senior High School.
Mary developed a strong work ethic that led her to establish and co-own a graphic design business, which she successfully operated for many years.
Beyond her career, Mary found great joy in traveling the world and experiencing different cultures. She especially enjoyed sharing stories about her trip to Morocco, where she rode a camel in the Sahara Desert.
Mary’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable happiness to her life. Family was at the center of everything she did, and she especially enjoyed Sunday lunches and lively games of Bingo.
A generous and compassionate person, Mary was always eager to help others and had a special love for animals and her beloved pets.
Before the progression of dementia, Mary loved cooking and sharing traditional Cuban dishes with her family. She was an exceptional cook. She introduced her Mississippi family to the art of making cafecito, and countless cherished memories were created around those small cups of espresso. Every cafecito shared will forever remind us of her. Mimi’s favorite dessert was a simple Cuban cracker topped with guava and cream cheese. She taught us all that life’s simplest pleasures are often the sweetest when shared with those we love.
Mary is survived by her sons, Eddie Sirven (Robin) of Jackson, Mississippi, and Michael Gonzalez (Angie) of Pembroke Pines, Florida; her grandchildren, Christopher Sirven (Elizabeth), Jeremy Sirven (Leah), Bettye-Grace McCoy (Chris), Alex Sirven (Meredith), Renee Drolet, and Brittany Gonzalez; and her great-grandchildren, Rosalyn Sirven, Julia Rose Sirven, Nate Sirven, Hazel Sirven, Ryan Sirven, Adeline McCoy, Raife Sirven, Henry Sirven, Callum Sirven, Benjamin Drolet, Amelia Drolet, and Elijah Drolet.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roberto Fajardo; her parents, Ricardo Antonio Sirven and Caridad Martinez Sirven; and her brothers, Ricardo Sirven, Gustavo A. Sirven, and Joseph Emilio Sirven.
Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her devotion to her children and family, her Catholic faith, her generosity toward those in need, and her love of animals.
