Mary "Mac" McCune Skinner
October 29, 1929 – March 5, 2019
Mary McCune "Mac" Causey Skinner peacefully began her journey to her eternal life the evening of Tuesday, March 5,2019, in the company of family. Mac Skinner was born on October 19, 1929, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, to Frank A. Causey and Mattie Ruth Causey. The family later settled on Briarwood Drive in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1938 and later in 1949 to N. Prentiss Street in Jackson. Mac, along with her five siblings, Allie Ruth, Frank, Carolyn, Jo Anne, and Bill, enjoyed dancing and singing around the piano their mother would play, and the Causey clan shared memories of working hard but enjoying life in the country as a close-knit family.
Mac attended Liberty Grove School in Hinds County and graduated from CentralHigh School in 1948. Among her many jobs was as a bookkeeper and as a dance instructor at Arthur Murray School of Dance. The majority of her career was spent as a devoted wife to Jack D. Skinner, a loving mother to her five children, and a caregiver to her parents in their later years. An outstanding cook, Mac started a small catering company with Mildred Brown in 1975. She also enjoyed the neighborhood Garden Club and playing bridge and scrabble with her neighborhood girlfriends. Mac retired from Andrew Jackson Life lnsurance Company in 1990. For a short while, her retirement was spent enjoying travel with friends and going to ballroom competitions and events. Mac's infectious laugh, high energy level, true Southern hospitality and charm, and fun-loving spirit will be remembered by all she counted as her friend.
ln 1995, Mac was severely injured in an automobile accident and never recovered her ability to walk again. For a short time she received at-home health care until she moved to Lakeland Nursing Home in Jackson. ln August 2009, she was moved to the South Hampton Nursing Home in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama. Mac continued to receive care at South Hampton until her death on March 5,2019. Any visitor she received left her room in awe of the inspiration her attitude reflected and the gratitude she expressed. Her optimism, patience, good spirit and wit, laughter and continued faith in God's plan was beyond compare.
Mac is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mattie Ruth Causey; her sisters, Carolyn Causey Smith (Buddy) and Allie Ruth Causey Shannon (Ted); her brother Frank A. Causey, Jr. (Phyllis); and her son, Jack D. Skinner, Jr. She is survived by her sister Jo Anne Causey Dukes (Carl "Sonny") and brother, William A. "Bill" Causey ("Patty"); her children Kay Kelley, Ann Waggener (Pat), Michael A. Skinner (Tia), and Jeff Skinner (Stephanie); her grandchildren, Dustin, Dallas and Natalie Waggener, Jackson and Lilly Skinner, Nathan (Robin), Becky and Johnny Skinner, and Keanu and Remington Skinner and one great granddaughter, Thea Skinner. She held dear a host of friends, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Parkway Memorial in Ridgeland, Mississippi, on March 16,2019. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a service from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Parkway Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the scores of caregivers, doctors, physical therapists, and other medical personnel who gave so much of themselves to help Mac continue good health and spirits for so many years. ln lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in loving memory of her nephew, Bradley Gardner.
