
Milton H. Mitchell, a retired attorney, 90 years of age, died October 26 2010, at home in Brandon, Mississippi. A private family service will be held at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS.
Mr. Mitchell was born on the campus of Mississippi State University (then Mississippi A&M College) on May 20, 1920, and graduated from that university in 1939 with a B.S. Degree in Business. He entered the University of Mississippi Law School in the fall of 1939 and continued his legal education until the end of the fall semester of 1941 when he withdrew from school and entered service in the United States Army Air Force as an aviation cadet. He received his wings as a pilot in February, 1943, and was immediately shipped overseas where he served in the Pacific until January of 1945. During his service in World War II he flew 243 combat missions. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, and five Battle Stars. He was discharged from the service in September, 1945, and returned to Ole Miss where he received his law degree in August, 1946.
From 1946 to 1975 Mr. Mitchell was engaged in the private practice of law in Jackson, the majority of which time he was a partner in the firm of Carter, Mitchell & Robinson. In August of 1975 he withdrew from the firm and the private practice of law to become the General Counsel and Senior Vice President of MFC Services. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Alpha chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Charles B. Mitchell; his mother, Johnnie Mae Harper Mitchell; his stepmother, Anne Pope Mitchell, all of Starkville, MS, and his brother, Dr. Charles B. Mitchell, Jr. of Meridian, MS.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 60 years, June Fox Mitchell, and his daughters Marsha Brockman and husband, Bill, of Monroe, LA; Joan Caden and husband, Jimmy, of Jackson and Anne Peters and husband, Mike, of Jackson. He is survived by his grandsons Mitch Peters andwife, Ceejaye, and Sam Peters and wife, Courtney, and one great granddaughter, Anna Mitchell Peters, daughter of Mitch and Ceejaye. He is also survived by his brothers Dr. Tom Herron Mitchell of Vicksburg, MS, and Dr. George D. Mitchell of Maitland, FL, and by his lifetime friend, Sam Polk of Starkville, MS.
