Muriel D. Jones

MURIEL D. JONES, age 92, passed away on December 11, 2015 surrounded by her family after a short bout with cancer. Mrs. Jones was born November 11, 1923 in Carrollton, MS to Tandy and Sallie Dunn and graduated Valedictorian from J. Z. George High School in Carrollton, MS in June, 1940. Upon moving to Little Rock, AR to go to work for the Federal Government, she met, and married in 1942, the love of her life, Ardis Jones, and for the next 72 years, they were a loving couple until the death of Mr. Jones in 2014.

Upon the conclusion of World War II, Ardis and Muriel moved to Dallas, Texas in 1946 where Mr. Jones resumed his career. After several transfers with the Federal Government, they moved to Jackson, MS in June of 1960 which, after moving to Madison, MS in 1993, became their final stop in life. Until her death, Muriel was a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church in Jackson, MS and leaves behind many lifelong friends. In 1977, she retired from her job as Manager of the Federal Employees Credit Union in Jackson, MS as she and Ardis traveled the world and enjoyed the final years of their life together.

Muriel is preceded in death by her parents, Tandy and Sally Dunn, her lifetime companion and husband Ardis Jones, three sisters, Bernice, Sara, and Judy, and one brother, Victor. She is survived by her two sons, Larry (Debbie) of Lexington, KY and Ronnie (Karen) of Ridgeland, MS, one daughter-in-law Pam, numerous grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. In her later years, Muriel was greatly aided and attended by dedicated caregivers and the family would like to thank Addie Mitchell, Pat Green, Hazel Banks, and Jo Smith for their devotion and compassion. Visitation will be held at Parkway (Wright and Ferguson) Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS on December 14 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a short chapel service to follow immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Alta Woods Baptist Church in Jackson, MS in the name of Ardis and Muriel Jones.
