

The Lord called Nancy Myrick Summerhill Gross home on June 26, 2023. She was 72 years old and was from Madison, MS. She was a beloved kindergarten teacher who taught for over forty years and who impacted hundreds of students and their families.
Nancy was born in Kosciusko, MS, on June 8, 1951. Her parents were Lester Kimble Myrick and Hattie Herring Myrick Arnold, both of Thomastown, MS. Nancy graduated from Carthage High School in 1969. She briefly attended Mississippi University for Women and later received her B.S. in Education from Delta State University. There she met Jim Summerhill of Durant, MS, and they were married until his untimely death in 1995. Nancy and Jim had two sons, Dax and Casey. In 1999, Nancy married John Milton Gross, III. He had two sons from a previous marriage, John Matt and Hardy.
Nancy first taught elementary school in Pensacola, FL, and Birmingham, AL, before she moved to Madison, MS, where she continued teaching until her retirement.
Nancy was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Madison, MS, and was also active at New Providence Church, Carthage, MS.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, and her brother Gary Myrick. She is survived by her sons and step-sons: Dax (Laurie) Summerhill of Providence, FL, Casey (Carlie) Summerhill of Madison, MS, John Matt Gross of Carthage, MS, and Hardy (Heather) Gross of Carthage, MS. One of the greatest joys of Nancy’s life was her eleven grandchildren: Joshua, Myrick, Sarah Jane, Jaxson, Allie, Kate, Mackenzie, Adah, Anna, Sloane, and John Hardy. She is also survived by her younger brother, Danny (Gina) Myrick of Brandon, MS, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Nancy has been tremendously blessed by a myriad of close friends, who have loved and cared for her through the years. She leaves behind a long line of students who are always loved and always remembered. She loved the Lord, her family, and her friends and will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 29, 2023, from 5-7 pm at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS. The funeral will be held at First Baptist Church, Madison, MS, on June 30, 2023, at 11 am with visitation at 10 am. The graveside service will be at 2 pm at Parkway Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Nancy by giving to Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson, MS.
