She was born in Roxie, Mississippi on February 12, 1924, to Stanton Levi Middleton, Sr. and Julia Jones Middleton. She moved to Jackson in 1942, where she worked first as a secretary for the Baptist Convention Board and later as an administrative secretary for the Mississippi State Tax Commission, now the Mississippi Department of Revenue. She married Percy H. Powers, Jr. of Jackson on April 12, 1952. She left employment in early 1954 prior to the birth of her first child to pursue her true vocation as a fulltime homemaker and mother. She enjoyed playing the piano, working in her yard, and playing word games.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Dr. Stanton L. Middleton, Jr. and sisters Edith Middleton Anderson and Julia Mae Middleton Furr.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Cynthia I. Powers of Jackson, son Percy H. Powers, III of Dallas, Texas, sister Geneva Middleton Keys of Ridgeland, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service is planned at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson on March 2, 2018 at 11:00a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in her name be made to Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland, Mississippi.
She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
