Nathalie (“Nat”) Thomas Hobbs (87) of Jackson, MS passed away on February 28, 2018, after a short illness.
Nat was born in Rutherfordton, NC on May 7, 1930, to Mildred and William B. Thomas. She attended the University of South Carolina and graduated with a degree in Education.
Nat married Joe W. Hobbs and together they had 2 children, Leslie Hobbs and Lynn Hobbs Myers. Nat worked as a school teacher after graduation and decided to travel to Europe with her sorority sisters and closest friends. Teaching in Germany, Nat took the opportunity to travel Europe and live life to the fullest. While in Germany, Nat meet Joe and they returned to the States to be married.
Nat was a caring and warm-hearted woman and had a special place in her heart for others and especially her children and grandchildren. She had a special way of making people feel loved and appreciated. As an educator, she knew how to influence and mold her students and with that experience, Nat positively influenced the lives of Leslie, Lynn, and her two grandchildren showing the power of love and affection. A devoted Episcopalian, Nat loved St. James and was unselfish of her time as a long-term volunteer.
Funeral services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church located at 3921 Oakridge Dr, in Jackson at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Visitation will be held at Oak Ridge Hall on the campus of St James on Monday, March 5th between 5:00 and 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday, March 6th between 10:00 and 10:45 AM.
Nat is survived by Leslie Hobbs and Lynn Hobbs Myers and Lynn’s children Jack and Matthew Myers. Nat is preceded in death by Mildred Thomas (mother), William B. Thomas (father), William B. Thomas Jr. (brother), and Joe W. Hobbs (husband).
Nat’s family thanks Dr. Justin Dyer and Dr. Jeter, and all the staff at UMMC who cared for Nat with kindness and compassion during her illness. In addition, the family thanks the staff of Kare-In-Home Hospice and Sitter Service as they showed devotion, love, and kindness in Nat’s final hours.
In lieu of flowers, Nat’s family wishes any donations be made payable to St. James Episcopal Church’s Outreach Program (3921 Oakridge Dr, Jackson MS 39216).
