Nora K. Walker

Nora walked a dynamic, joyful, quick-witted and vivacious energy into every space she entered, often at warp speed. People were immediately drawn to her upon their first interaction. She had an unparalleled interest in truly knowing everyone she encountered and could provide more retained, detailed information about them years later than they could remember about themselves.

Her life was centered around family. The love of her life, her husband Jimmie, was her rock, cheerleader, dance partner, and brake pedal. She especially adored her perfect grandsons and expanded her family unit to include her daughters’ friends, many of whom considered her a bonus mom. A talented chef, she lovingly shared her Lebanese food and hospitality with any guest in her home. Surprisingly they often found they were indeed wrong about their perceived levels of hunger and thirst as Nora was far better able to calibrate their actual needs.

Nora cherished her Catholic faith as was evidenced by her expansive prayer list, generous spirit, and positive impact on many she met personally and professionally during her nine plus decades of life.

The family wishes to thank the administration, staff, and residents of St. Catherine’s Village for their incredible love and decades of care and kindness, her dear friend, Dr. Gene Loper, and Dr. Pierre DeDelva for his warm embrace of Nora.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jimmie E. Walker, and her son-in-law, Michael Dowell. Nora is survived by her two daughters, Melanie Walker Dowell and Melissa Walker Green (Rich), and five grandsons, Mack Dowell (Maggie), Preston Dowell (Betsy), Walker Dowell, Alex Green (Amy) and Anthony Green, who were gifted with wonderful memories of their “Sittie”. She also leaves 8 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and the youngest of her six siblings, Barbara Lawson (Blu).

Visitation will be held at St. Richard Catholic Church from 10:00 am-12:00 noon, on Saturday August 1, 2026, followed by a Funeral Mass of Resurrection officiated by Father Joe Tonos. Burial will follow at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland MS.

To honor Nora’s love of bright colors reflective of her zest for making a fashion statement, the family asks that funeral attendees wear colorful attire.
