Pierre Auguste (Pete) Vianey, 93, of Madison, MS passed away peacefully on January 13, 2019 from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease. He is preceded in death by parents Auguste and Lucie Vianey, brother Lucien Vianey and sister Georgette Vianey Dimock. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gladys Ivey Vianey, son Charles (Janie) Vianey of Birmingham, AL, and daughter Beth Vianey (Hal) Fisher of Canton, MS. He also leaves four grandchildren – Kathryn Fisher, Claire Fisher (Cole) Gressett, Sarah Vianey and Chad Vianey.
Pete was born in Dover, Massachusetts on January 14, 1925. He served in the Navy during World War II, attended Tufts University and earned his B.S. in engineering from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a Professional Engineer. He worked for the General Electric Company in a variety of engineering roles, retiring after thirty-eight years of service. In retirement he volunteered at Willowood Developmental Center for twenty-two years.
He was a long-time member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, and of the Men’s Garden Club of Jackson. Pete was an avid gardener and loved to grow azaleas and roses. He was also an ardent reader and lifelong learner.
There will be a private family interment the morning of Thursday, January 17, followed by visitation at Broadmoor Baptist Church Chapel at 10:00 and a memorial service at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at Broadmoor Baptist Church (1531 Highland Colony Parkway, Madison, MS 39110-7469).
