Richard “Rick” David Holland, 69, passed away peacefully at his home on September 28, 2025. He was born on December 19, 1955 in Jackson, MS, and in 1986 moved to Madison, MS where he resided until his passing.
Rick's professional journey began in barbering before making the transition to finance in 1980. He spent many years with local finance companies until branching out on his own. Rick established Better Finance, Inc., on July 1, 1993 and successfully operated the loan business until his retirement in 2021. He would jokingly say it was a journey that took him "from cutting hair to cutting checks."
I think everyone would agree Rick had a quick wit and dry sense of humor. His laugh was contagious...one you couldn't help but remember. We all knew his humor often made the difficult situations more bearable and certainly made the best of times more memorable.
He was a longtime member of Fondren Presbyterian Church, and often remarked that he grew up attending “every time the doors were open.” Rick enjoyed riding motorcycles, water skiing, football, and maintaining a pristine yard. He loved family gatherings, especially when his grandchildren were present and had a love for animals like none other.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zack D. and Jean Holland; his daughter, Allison Holland Jensen; and stepson Wesley “Wes” Pollock. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Cindy B. Pollock; children Jacob Holland (Regan), Jennifer Holland Etheridge, and Brady Holland; stepchildren Katie Pollock and Jackson Pollock (Allyson); son-in-law, Darwin Jensen (Allison); sister, Patricia Holland (Bryon); and 11 grandchildren, who adored him as Grumpaw, Grandpa Rick, and Pawpaw.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Marion Taylor, Tammie Phillips, and the Pax Hospice care team for their loving care during this time.
Services to honor Rick’s life will be held at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Pkwy, Ridgeland, MS on Monday, October 6, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with services to follow at 2:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Clinton Cemetery, Clinton, MS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to support Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma (adrenal cancer) research in honor of Allison Holland Jensen.
