

Robert was a resident of Madison and a native of Yazoo City, where his friends knew him as Bobby. After graduating from Yazoo City High School in 1965, he attended the University of Mississippi, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree and a Juris Doctorate. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. While he was attending Ole Miss, he met and married Susan Sargent of Natchez, his bride of 47 years.
Bobby practiced law in Meridian before returning to Yazoo City in the 70s to be an attorney at Mississippi Chemical Corporation. Bobby ultimately became General Counsel of MCC and later Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, where he served until Mississippi Phosphates was spun off by the company. He led Mississippi Phosphates as President and CEO for a number of years. He retired in 2013. He served as a member of the Mississippi State Personnel Board and served on the Board of Directors of The Fertilizer Institute.
Throughout his life, Bobby blessed all who knew him with his wonderful sense of humor, amazing selfless heart, his unwavering love for his family and friends and his passion for Ole Miss sports. Spending time with his family was Bobby’s greatest pleasure.
Bobby Jones was predeceased by his parents, Robert Eugene and Sue Jurney Jones. He is survived by his wife, Susan; two children, Robert Eugene Jones, III, of Jackson and Alexis Harris Jones of Birmingham, AL; and a sister, Betty Sue Jones Gengnagel of Auburn, Indiana.
Visitation has been set for noon on Saturday at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland with the funeral following at 1:00 pm with Reverend Charles Wingard presiding.
Pallbearers are Robert Jones, Haley Barbour, Adam Brown, Alton Brown, Wilson Brown, John Love, Griffin Norquist, and Joe Russell.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that donations be made to the Palmer Home for Children, P. O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703 or a charity of your choice.
