Robert “Bob” Christian Sauer, a helluva guy, beloved father, devoted husband, and trusted financial advisor, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, at the age of 72. He was born on November 26, 1952, in Washington, D.C., to Marjorie and George Sauer.
Bob spent his early years in Louisville, Kentucky, before the family moved to Jackson, Mississippi. A charismatic and natural leader, Bob graduated from Callaway High School in 1970, where he served as Senior class president and was an all-star varsity baseball player. He continued his education at the University of Mississippi, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. While at Ole Miss, Bob was a proud member of Sigma Chi.
Bob’s career began at Oral Tech and Clothiers, but soon transitioned into the world of finance, following his true passion: making money. Driven by a love for saving, investing, and helping others grow their wealth, he joined EF Hutton, marking the beginning of a long and successful career in the investment community. EF Hutton became Smith Barney and later Morgan Stanley, where he served his clients until his retirement in 2007. In his personal life, his wife and daughter often joked he was cheap, but in fact he was generous in philanthropy and in his thoughtful gift giving.
Retirement afforded Bob the freedom to fully immerse himself in his favorite hobbies: traveling, fishing, and hunting. He embarked on memorable adventures to prime spots across the globe, from Alaska to Argentina, often with his close-knit group of friends whom he affectionately dubbed, “The Feeble Four.”
Travel also played a special role in his family life. Bob cherished trips with his wife, Betty, and daughter, Marjorie Ann. The coast of Maine held a deep sentimental place in his heart, a destination frequented to visit the family home his grandmother, Lucille, kept there during his childhood. His final grand adventure was a thrilling safari in Africa with his daughter.
Bob loved animals; his and Betty’s home was a refuge for a steady stream of dogs. Bob was a fixture in the neighborhood walking circuit, always talking to both the dogs and walkers.
Anyone who knew Bob knew he was a grand storyteller. A true raconteur, Bob did not just relay an event but would transport you there. He had a knack for detail, and his humor was unmatched. His delivery was lively, hilarious, and always entertaining. From hour-long phone calls to Thanksgiving grace, every oration was unforgettable.
Bob is survived by his wife Betty of 40 years and his daughter, Marjorie Ann Sauer, and his many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie and George Sauer, and his twin sister Joan Sauer Bertaut.
