Ronald Lawson James, Sr. passed away February 9, 2013. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Tuesday at Broadmoor Baptist Church, Madison, MS. Visitation will also be at the church 10-11 am Wednesday and the service at 11:00 am at Broadmoor.
Ron was born in Lorman, MS December 30, 1930 to Ethel Martin James and Paul Lawson James. He attended Duling Elementary, Bailey Jr. High, and Central High School in Jackson, MS. He joined the Marines in the 10th grade and later served in the Korean War. Semper Fi
In September 1971 he went to work for American Family Life Assurance Company (AFLAC) where he was a top associate and district manager for 36 years. Ron was an active member of Broadmoor Baptist Church for over 50 years. He taught high school boys Sunday School and adult Sunday School and was an active deacon.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Claiborne Martin James. He is survived by his sister Evelyn Starnes of Missouri, his beloved wife of 56 years, Evelyn Porch James, his four children Ronn James, Jr., Julie James Tullos (husband Kent), Christi James Varner (husband George), and Brad James (wife Allison), and his eight grandchildren Ron James III, Kimberly Tullos Meints (husband Josiah), Bonnie Tullos Lahuta (husband Michael), Wesley Tullos, Lawson Varner, Stone Varner, Morgan James, and Bradlea James, along with many nieces and nephews, friends, and others who thought of him as their father.
He touched many people's lives and always had a smile and a hug. Ron made the world a better place and now Heaven is rejoicing at his arrival. Ron was a great Christian man who believed this verse with all his heart: “Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14:6).
Pallbearers will be Jim Porch, Rob Porch, Wesley Tullos, Stone Varner, Ron James III, Lawson Varner, and Michael Lahuta.
