Sandra Hayes Holman went home to be with the Lord on August 15, 2022. Sandra was born on November 28, 1946, in Meridian, MS, the daughter of Dorothy Carmichael Hayes and Kenneth Howell Hayes. She graduated from Meridian High School in 1964. She then completed nursing school at the Gilfoy School of Nursing in 1967. She earned her BSN from Mississippi College in 1975, where she was also campus nurse, and received her MSN in 1985 from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Sandra and John Holman were married, wearing blue jeans, on June 15, 1979 and shared 43 happy years together, “forever in blue jeans.”
Sandra was a born nurturer. She loved taking care of people and making sure they were doing well. She also took pride in making sure things were done right. These gifts equipped her to be the exceptional nurse that she became, caring not only for her patients’ health, but also for their hearts and spirits.
Sandra always had the heart of a servant and spent her entire adult life serving others, as not only a nurse, but also a daughter, sister, friend, caregiver, dedicated church member and leader. She practiced as a nurse until her retirement from Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in November of 2013. During her last years of practice, Sandra led the Baptist Health Line and was involved in many community events. Under her clinical leadership, Baptist Medical Center sponsored a community-wide heart screening every year to which hundreds of people came. We may never know how many lives she touched through this effort. Sandra was also a former member at Wells Church in Jackson, MS, where she participated in the choir and other ministry activities and an active member at Parkway Hills UMC in Madison.
Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, John Holman, brother, Kenny Hayes, Harlan Hayes (Marilyn), and sister, Cindy Rodgers (Dennis) all of Meridian, her mother-in-love, Muriel Holman and a host of friends who considered her family.
Services for Sandra Holman will include a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS, on Thursday, August 18, 2022. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022. Interment will be at Parkway Memorial Cemetery immediately following the service.
Memorials may be made to Parkway Hills UMC Building, P.O. Box 1721, Madison, MS 39110 or the charity of your choice.
