
Shirley Moon Hines died peacefully at home in the presence of her family on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. The funeral service will be held at Briarwood Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00. Visitation will precede the service at 9:30 at the church. Burial will be at Parkway Memorial Cemetery on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland.
Shirley was born on January 29, 1929 in Troup, Texas to Ira Dwight and Alma T. Moon. She graduated from Troup High School in 1947. After graduating from business school, she worked as a stenographer.
On Christmas Day, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, Ralph "Stogie" Hines. After living for brief periods in several cities while Ralph began his career in the oil business, they made their home in Jackson, Mississippi in 1954.
She enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She had a love for gardening, cooking and making her home warm and gracious. She and Ralph enjoyed traveling across the country and abroad for many years. Shirley was a longtime member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Harold Moon and Robert Moon and her sister, Rachel Moon Neely.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, E. Ralph Hines, Jr., sons Scott Hines and wife Jean; Todd Hines and wife Leslie; Kirk Hines and wife Evie; and her daughter, Claire Hines Phillips and husband Logan Phillips, Jr., her grandchildren, Lindsay H. Dehmer, Breck Hines, Logan Phillips III, Meg P, Reeves, Olivia Hines, Kirkland Hines, Jr., Lil Hines, Vaughan Hines and Allison Hines; great grandchildren, Nash Dehmer, Ridley Dehmer, Rimes Dehmer, Breck Hines Jr., Hart Hines, Lucy Hines and William Reeves.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks for the loving care given to Mrs. Hines by Philander Tots, Mary Thomas, Sarah Robinson, Verteal Bell and Angela Bratton.
Also, her sons, Scott, Todd and Kirk wish to give their thanks and appreciation to their sister, Claire, for the undying love, devotion and care given to their mother during the last years of her life.
