Sidney Charles Bowie Jr.

Sidney “Sid” Charles Bowie, Jr. was born August 19, 1926 in McCool, Mississippi. Upon graduation from McCool High School, Sid joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country in World War II.

Mr. Bowie utilized his broad experiences and versatility in working with electronics as he worked with corporations such as Sandia National Laboratory and Chrysler Space Division. These employments took him and his family from Mississippi to California, New Mexico, Missouri and Louisiana. He also taught Electronics Courses at Hinds Junior College.

In 1976 Sid settled in Jackson, Mississippi where he founded the family business, Bowie Audio Visual Enterprises. 36 years later, his company is still thriving and serving the Jackson metropolitan areas and the state of Mississippi.

In 2001 Sid moved to St Catherine’s Village where he enjoyed wonderful friendships formed by participating in Bridge, Bingo and Crossword Puzzles. His greatest pleasure was in ministering to everyone around him. His Christian influence, positive attitude and encouragement to family, staff and residents has touched many hearts forever.

Mr. Bowie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edith Mae Thompson Bowie. He is also survived by his three, living children: Sidney Charles Bowie, III and his wife, Karen Curbow Bowie of Madison, Mississippi; James Gary Bowie of Daphne, Alabama and Nancy Bowie Smylie and her husband, Robert Warren Smylie of Madison, Mississippi. Mr. Bowie has nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Bowie has two surviving brothers: Reverend John Bowie of Crystal Springs, Mississippi and Jerry Bowie of Little Rock, Arkansas.

The family of Sidney Charles Bowie, Jr. would like to express deep appreciation to Dr. William Loper, Dr. Ruth Fredericks, Dr. Michael Sanders and Dr. Charles Weber for sharing decades of their medical expertise and genuine care with our dad. Special, heartfelt appreciation to the faculty and staff at St. Catherine’s Village for 12 years of your unwaivering standards of excellence in care for our dad. You all will always be considered a treasured part of our

family.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, February 10, 2012, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS, where the family will receive friends on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00PM

and from 10:00 AM until service hour on Friday. A graveside service will be held at the McCool Cemetery in McCool, MS at 3:00 PM.
