Spencer "Buddy" Medlin

Buddy was born on December 8, 1930 in Tippo, Mississippi to Eugene Spencer and Georgia Hortence Medlin. He was a graduate of Charleston High School and attended Northwest Mississippi Junior College where he was a drum major.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War as an airplane mechanic and pilot instructor. While in the Air Force, he developed his love of aviation and later went on to obtain his private pilot’s license. He enjoyed boating and being a part of the Ross Barnett Reservoir since its beginning. He had many life experiences having been involved in consumer finance, the restaurant business, served as Mississippi State Park Director and gave his time to the March of Dimes and the Baptist Children’s Home. He started Buddy Medlin & Associates, a state lobbying and government relations firm, where he served as President for over fifty years. He never met a stranger and was such a giving person in many ways.

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Ann Medlin in 2007; and his sister, Mary Anna Underwood.

Buddy is survived by his daughter, Linnae Hartley (Brad) of Madison, MS; son, Mike Medlin (Ruby) of Ridgeland, MS; grandchildren, Matt Hartley (Laura) of Madison, MS, Leah Cohran (Chris) of Brandon, MS, Michael Medlin and Mitchell Medlin, both of Ridgeland, MS; great grandchildren, Blaze, Alaina, Austin, Evans and Everhett.

The family would like to thank the staff at MS Baptist Medical Center for their care during his last days, and also for the compassionate care he received at St. Catherine’s Village throughout his years there in the garden home, Marian Hall and most recently in Siena.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm at Parkway Funeral Home with a graveside service at 2:30 in Parkway Memorial Cemetery, 1161 Highland Colony Pkwy. Ridgeland, MS 39157. In order to protect the health and safety of everyone, it is requested that masks be worn and social distancing be observed.
