Obituary of Steve Holly
A beautiful, fun, smart, loving man succumbed to Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease on Saturday, July 30, 2022. Steve fought an 11 year battle with Alzheimer’s never losing his sense of humor or sweet disposition. Steve was the 2nd son of Lorine and Melvin Holly, born in Greenville, Mississippi in 1951. Steve attended Forest Hill High School and Mississippi State University. Steve excelled as a certified petroleum landman for several decades. He made many lasting friendships in his years as a Landman. Steve was a member of AAPL and MAPL. Steve’s greatest joy was playing music (guitar or harmonica) especially with his sister, Sally, or his friends in Bay St. Louis. He also enjoyed golfing with friends on Saturday mornings. Steve’s happiest days were fishing and sunset cruises on the Jordan River in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Additionally, he loved playing, swimming and boating with his wife, Carol, JRE friends and his black Labrador retrievers. Steve also loved the MSU Bulldogs and the New Orleans Saints. Steve’s other talents and interests included hunting, stain glass creations, mosaics and word working. Steve loved all animals and his charisma was a magnet with four-legged creatures. Steve was a lifelong Baptist, most recently worshiping (until health matters prevented attendance) at Broadmoor Baptist Church. In 2009 Steve was baptized in the Jordan River, Bay St. Louis. Steve was blessed with four wonderful young men, their families and children in his life: his son, Steven Tyler Holly (Becca) now of Castleberry Alabama; stepson, Christopher Alan Partridge; stepson, Trey Weir (Susan); and godson, Paul LaFleur (Abby), now of Pass Christian, Mississippi. The special young women in his life include his niece, Michelle Alford (John) and their children John Warner and Jude. Steve adored his beautiful granddaughters, Kathryn and Lucy Weir, who lovingly referred to him as “Poppa” and cherished his daughter in law, Susan Frye Weir. Steve was predeceased by his parents Lorine and Melvin (Big Daddy) Holly; brother, Melvin Nowell Holly (2021); brother, William Whit Holly (2021); nephew, Ryan Patrick Miller (2002), and father-in-law, R.L. Miller (2007). Also mourning Steve’s passing are his devoted wife, Carol Miller Holly; best friend and sister, Sally M. Holly; sister and brother-in-law Helen and Jim Coughlin; and nephew, Whit Holly. Also Valda Miller, mother in law; Mary and Lee Miller, Laurel and Price Donahoo, and Katie and Jordan Miller and their families. Eternal gratitude and thanks for the exceptional care and devotion from Kellye Butler and her entire family; and Dr. Scott Gibson, UMMC Mind Center. A special note of love to the friends and family who continued to visit and encourage Steve with phone calls, texts, dance parties, Miller lite and delicious food. Memorials please to UMMC Mind Center, 2500 North State Street, Jackson, Mississippi 39216. A private burial is planned at Parkway Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, Mississippi. All friends and family are invited to the celebration of Steve’s life at Georgia Blue, Madison, Mississippi at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
