Vicki was born on August 9, 1958, in Jackson, Mississippi. At the age of four, she moved to Star, where she grew up surrounded by family, faith, music, and community. She attended Star Baptist Church, where she served as a pianist and choir member throughout her high school years.
Vicki graduated as an honor graduate from Jackson Prep in 1976. During her high school years, she was a member of the Pacers dance team, the Preparation Song and Dance Group, and the Prep Choir. She continued her education at Mississippi State University, graduating in 1980 with a degree in communications and an emphasis in public relations. At Mississippi State, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and one of the first Bulldog Belles, an all-girl dance team.
Vicki built a remarkable career in advertising, marketing, and public relations, serving hundreds of clients and forming lifelong friendships along the way. She was one of the first Mississippians to earn accreditation in public relations (APR), a reflection of her dedication to her profession and her commitment to excellence. Throughout her career, she generously mentored young professionals, encouraging them to learn, grow, and find joy in their work.
Vicki served as director of communications for Mississippi Blood Services before joining Godwin Group in 1993. She spent many years with the agency and retired in 2018 as vice president of public relations. Among the many clients she cherished was the USA International Ballet Competition. She particularly enjoyed staffing the media operations center during the competition, which took place every four years, and looked forward to each opportunity to be
part of the event.
In 1992, Vicki married Andy Blake of Ridgeland. Together, they treasured the years they spent raising their son, Harper, and cheering him on at football games and Boy Scout events.
After retiring, Vicki embraced the things that brought her joy. She loved creative decorating projects, traveling with Andy, and attending concerts together. Most of all, she treasured her friendships. She loved gathering with friends for lunch or dinner and was known for bringing along a thoughtful gift or "happy" she had discovered just for them. Vicki had a remarkable gift for making people feel remembered, valued, and loved.
Vicki faced her years of illness with extraordinary courage and grace. Even through difficult days, she maintained a beautiful, positive outlook and continued to find joy in the people and experiences she held dear. Her faith was a source of great comfort. As a member of Madison Methodist Church, she found peace in the Lord's grace and goodness and remained deeply grateful for the love and support of her family and friends.
Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Maurine Harper of Star.
She is survived by her husband, Andy, of Madison; their son, Harper (Kendall) Blake of Pearl; her brother, Greg Harper (Rosemary) of Clinton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins from both the Harper and Blake families.
