

Virginia Anne Hughes England was born on October 18, 1929. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson. Virginia Anne graduated from Central High School and attended Milsaps College. While at Milsaps, she was a member of Phi Mu sorority, where she served as president. During college she met the love of her life, James Johnson England.
Virginia Anne was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Jackson. She was an active member of the Sanctuary Choir for over sixty years and especially enjoyed singing in Carols by Candlelight.
Virginia Anne was a dedicated school teacher and her love for teaching lasted over sixty-five years. She most recently taught at Jackson Academy in the preschool during the 2014-2015 school year. She touched hundreds of children's lives and had a passion for teaching reading. Her love for children and learning will live on for many years to come. She was an avid bridge player and loved her social luncheon clubs.
She passed away at the age of 85 at her home surrounded by her family. Virginia Anne, also known as Gee Gee to her grandchildren, will be missed by her family, friends, fellow teachers, and students that she impacted. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Johnson England; and her parents, Everette Hollis Hughes and Johnnie Maggard Hughes. She is survived by her sister, Helen Hughes Smith, and her three children, James Everette England, John Frederick England, and Ann Elizabeth Crawley (Betsy); her daughters-in-love (law), Leigh Ellen Martin England and Gail Crosthwait England; her grandchildren, Neely Claire England, Virginia England, Sandra England, John Thomas Couch, Peyton Couch, and Maryasa England.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:30 am at First Baptist Church Jackson, with visitation held prior from 9:30 am until service time. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Memorial donations can be made to First Baptist Church Jackson or Jackson Academy.
