Billy was the oldest of five brothers—Gene, Johnny, Jimmy, and Bobby—all of whom preceded him in death.
Billy was married to his first love, Betty Gay Joest Clements, until her passing in 1991. Together they raised two sons: Walter Ashley Clements III (Bill), son, William; and David Joest Clements Sr. (Dawn), sons, Jack and Sam.
In 2010, Billy married Anne Armstrong (“TaTa”) Clements. Billy and Anne were devoted to one another and expressed their love for each other every day. Through this marriage, Billy was blessed with an extended family that brought him great joy: Ron Rodriguez (Angela) son, Nasson; and Renee Guest (Tal) children, Mary Bratton and Beau.
Billy attended Murrah High School, Hinds Community College, and Mississippi State University. He built a long and successful career in the poultry industry. The Clements and McCarty families founded State Pride Poultry, which eventually became McCarty Farms. Billy served as Vice President of Marketing and played a key role in the company’s growth and success.
After retiring from the chicken business, Billy remained active in the business community, becoming involved in several ventures including Castlewoods Country Club, McAlister’s Deli, and numerous real estate developments and investments throughout Mississippi. His keen business sense, creativity, and drive made him a respected figure in every endeavor he pursued.
Billy had a lifelong love of golf and sailing. Billy and Betty Gay spent countless happy days sailing on the Ross Barnett Reservoir aboard the “Slic Chic.” Later they had years of adventures along the Mississippi Gulf Coast on their boat, “Taking Time,” and especially loved sailing to Ship Island.
Billy will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time with his family. He will be deeply missed for his warmth, humor, generosity, and unwavering loyalty.
