Wayne was born on August 4, 1954, in Vincent, Alabama, to Houston and Martha Edwards. A proud Auburn Tiger, Wayne earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Auburn University in 1977. He later earned his Master of Business Administration from Mississippi College in 1988.
Wayne built a successful career in finance, specializing in equipment loans and leases for businesses across a variety of industries. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong work ethic, he owned and operated Equipment Financial Services Corp. from 1988 to 2006. Throughout his career, he worked with ECD/HOPE, Old River Truck Sales, and Performance Peterbilt Dealer Group. Never one to stop pursuing new opportunities, Wayne most recently established WE Equipment Finance LLC.
Wayne took tremendous pride in his work, and his dedication and talent earned him numerous awards and honors throughout his career. He was a six-time recipient of the Volvo Finance F&I Master Sales Award and was twice named Volvo Finance F&I Master Sales/F&I Manager of the Year.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Wayne had a great personality and a wonderful sense of humor. Although he rarely drank himself, he was a phenomenal bartender and was affectionately known to many as “Swizzle.” He loved music, especially Led Zeppelin and the Eagles, and never turned down a slice of key lime pie. Wayne had a gift for telling stories, making people laugh, and making everyone around him feel welcome.
While Wayne was proud of his many accomplishments, nothing in his life meant more to him than his family.
Wayne married the love of his life, Mary, on December 29, 1984. Together, they shared more than 41 years of marriage and built a beautiful life centered around their family. Wayne was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a beloved uncle. He was someone his family could always count on, whether it was for advice, a helping hand, a good laugh, or simply being there when he was needed. He never hesitated to show up for the people he loved.
Wayne will be remembered for his humor, his stories, his generosity, his loyalty, and, above all, his unwavering love for his family. He spent a lifetime putting others before himself, and the countless memories he created will forever be treasured by those who knew and loved him.
There is comfort in knowing that Wayne is reunited with his beloved Mary once again. Their legacy will live on through the lives they touched and the memories they leave behind.
Wayne was deeply loved, and he will be forever missed.
Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Edwards; his parents, Houston and Martha Edwards; his brothers-in-law, Don Garrett and Shannon Flynn; and his nephews, Dean Garrett and Kevin Flynn.
