

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Richard “Dick” Evans, who departed this life on August 27, 2025, at the age of seventy-seven. Born on March 26, 1948, in Jackson, Mississippi, Dick lived a life marked by dedication, service, and generosity.
A proud graduate of Mississippi College in Clinton, Dick went on to collaborate with his grandfather and father in the family business—Evans Lumber Company on Bailey Avenue. His commitment to hard work and community was evident throughout his career and beyond.
Dick was a loyal member of First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi, where he found fellowship, purpose, and spiritual strength. His faith guided his actions and shaped the way he cared for others.
After retiring, Dick devoted his time to volunteering with Gleaners, an organization committed to collecting surplus food and distributing it to charitable agencies throughout the Jackson area. He also served honorably in the armed forces while stationed in Germany.
Dick is survived by his son, Jason Douglas and daughter-in-law, Michelle Douglas, both of Pearl, MS; his brother, Chris Evans of Las Vegas, NV; his sister, Nancy Evans Murff and brother-in-law Dan Murff of Madison, MS; and his beloved grandchildren, Evan Douglas and Sarah Brooke Douglas of Pearl, MS. He also leaves behind his niece and nephew, Kristen Murff Coleman of Madison, MS, and Shawn Murff of St. Louis, MO.
A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at Parkway Funeral Home, located at 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS 39657 starting at 1:00 P.M. till 3:00 PM on Wednesday September 3, 2025. There will a graveside service at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd. Jackson, MS 39209. All who knew and loved Dick are warmly invited to attend.
