Billy Nelson was born in Jackson, MS on April 4, 1951, to Nola Kate Ball Nelson and Arthur Leander Nelson. Billy was the third child of six children. He is preceded in death by both his mother and father; his brother Tommy Nelson and his brother Jimmy Nelson (Frances). He is survived by his wife Teresa Jane Humphries Nelson, his son William Arthur Nelson, his daughter Sara Rebecca Nelson Ferguson (Justin), his brother Robert Nelson, his brother Donald Nelson (Rachel) and his sister Ruth Keyes (Sam); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He attended Murrah High School, MS State University, and received a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Billy married Teresa on October 21,1978. They spent over forty years together cheering each other on in life, love and within the field of social work.
Billy spent his life as a champion for others. His 30 years in the social work profession at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson resulted in many lives saved and changed for the better. He was a man of integrity, compassion, and humor. When he wasn’t working, he spent his time reading, engaging others in playful debate, and playing with his Labradoodle, Joni Moonbeam.
Visitation services will be held at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS, on Monday, December 9, 2019 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. The funeral service will be held in the same location at 11:00 AM.
