Wilma Collins was granted 103 years! On Wednesday, July 1, she left this earth to be with the Lord. Born in Cumberland, MS on April 10, 1912, one of Newton Cyrus White and Queenie Esther Ramsey White’s seven children. Wilma graduated from Morgan City High School and pursued nurses training in Jackson, MS, that resulted in an RN career spanning over fifty years. When a young nurse, she met a handsome gentleman visiting his mother who was under Wilma’s care. On August 4, 1933 Wilma White became Mrs. John Alva Collins. They resided in Jackson, MS during the war years and moved to Ridgeland, MS in 1952. John and Wilma were faithful members of First Baptist Church and later charter members of Trace Ridge Baptist Church, also in Ridgeland. Sons, Johnny and Tommy were born in 1945 and 1949. Wilma was the consummate hostess for Garden and several Bridge clubs, Bridal and Wedding showers, Cub Scout meetings, and Church functions. An avid reader, she helped bring a beautiful library to Ridgeland. She moved to Texas in 2009 to be near son Tommy and family.
She was preceded in death by husband, John Alva Collins in 1980. She is survived by sons John M Collins (Linda) of Fulton, MS and Thomas White Collins (Debbie) of Richardson, TX; Grandchildren: Chanse Collins, John Barrett Collins, Brittany (Joe) Johnson, Christie (Travis) Carlson, Jachin (Mindy) Collins, Caleb (Mandy) Collins; Great grandchildren: Chandler Collins; Addison, Rivers, Raegan Johnson; Lily, Landon, Logan Carlson; Kaitlin, Sadie, Morgan Collins; Austen, Ryder, Caylee Collins.
Viewing and visitation with family will be Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Parkway Funeral Home, Ridgeland, MS from 4 to 6 pm. A Graveside service will be Monday, July 6, 2015, 11 am at Jessamine Cemetery, Ridgeland, MS.
