

Harvey Gilford Shupe, 87, of 900 Ainsley Street, Martinsville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday January 30, 2014. He was born in Fries on January 8, 1927 to the late Harvey Garnett Shupe and Alice Jefferson Shupe. He served in the United States Navy during WWII as a gunner mate third class on PT Boat 152 in the South Pacific. He was retired after thirty six years as the owner and operator of Shupe’s Radio & TV Services. Gilford was a member of the former Martinsville Church of God, today known as The Church at Mercy Crossing for more than sixty seven years. He attended Upper Room Worship Center where his grandson is pastor.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Geraldine Chaney Shupe, two sisters, Virgie and Hallie Shupe and three brothers, Roy, Bill and Hempton Shupe and one granddaughter, Amy Shupe.
Surviving are three sons, Ronald G. “Hoot” Shupe, Larry Daniel “Danny” Shupe and Gary W. Shupe all of Martinsville, four sisters, Stella Meadors, Geneva Eanes and Gaynell Wall all of Martinsville and Toni Foley of Fayetteville, NC, three brothers, Jim Shupe of Fayetteville, NC, Glen Shupe of Martinsville and Mack Shupe of Pearisburg, West Virginia, five grandchildren, Tammy Hylton, Ronnie, Jason and Stephen Shupe and Danielle Painter and four great-grandchildren. Gilford is also survived by his special companion Lillian Anderson of Martinsville.
A celebration of life service will be held 5:00 P.M. Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Refuge Temple of Martinsville with Pastor Jason Shupe, Rev. Ronnie Shupe and Rev. Stephen Shupe officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Roselawn Burial Park with Full Military Honors provided by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 3-5 P.M. Sunday February 2, 2014 at the church and other times at the home.
