Sylvia Gilley Adkins

Sylvia Gilley Adkins, 93, of 105 Landmark Drive, Stuart, died Friday, November 2, 2012 in the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born in Carroll County, on September 22, 1919 to the late Charles Gilley and Sarah Worrell Gilley. She was retired after forty years working in the spinning department if Fieldcrest Mills.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy and Bishop Wright, four sisters, Carrie Adams, Gladys Gilley, Edna Dove and Taft Gilley, one brother, Walt Gilley and one granddaughter, Denise Roop.

Surviving are five daughters, Sharon Wimbush and Sarah “Faye” Smyth both of Fieldale, Joy Roop of Martinsville, Lemmie Miller of Lexington and Bonnie Meeks of Ridgeway, nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 3:00p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2012 in the chapel of Community Funeral Service with Kelly Ratcliff officiating, interment will be private. The family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:30p.m. in the chapel of Community Funeral Services and other times at the home of a daughter, Sarah “Faye” Smyth at 3695 Dillon Forks Road, Fieldale, VA.
