He married Josephine Contreras in 1954, at St. Edwards Catholic Church.
Fred and his father built the house for his bride, Josephine Contreras, right next door to his parents and they lived there ever since, 65 years, where they raised their children, Michael and Anna. He adored, and was adored by his Grandchildren, Roland and Vincent, and by his Great Grandson Roland Jr. They were his pride and joy.
He loved the outdoors and working in his yard and garden, feeding the birds and enjoying the sunshine.
He once had a lizard in the garden who would come visit and just sit next to where he was. He was around so much that he was named Carson. Carson would come out whenever Fred was outside and stay a while. He would sit there like a dog, right next to him. His voice was the only one Carson would respond to.
Fred loved woodworking and building things with his hands. He could think up a project and figure out the materials needed in his head. If he wasn’t asleep, he was busy, either tinkering in the garden, or in his shed.
If Fred loved anything in this world, it was his family.
There wasn’t anything that he wouldn’t do for them. Anna asked for a dollhouse once, just a little one: instead, he made her a playhouse in the backyard, complete with a roof with shingles. There was a tile floor, screens, a table with 2 built in chairs, and a dish rack complete with teacups and saucers. Many, many years later, he found out that all Anna really wanted was a doll house.
Every summer, he would take his family on a 2-week vacation and head straight to Yosemite, sometimes with his sisters and their families. These were times that were cherished by all and we all have fond memories of camping.
He liked to kid around also - Fred told their friend Rosemary that he wanted to invite her to a private club for dinner, and that she needed a card to get in, and it wouldn’t cost her anything. You can eat as much as you want and everything is free.
She was quite intrigued in this place and said, tell me where this place is. He chuckled and said “COSTCO”. They had a good laugh over this.
He never wanted his wife to go gray, he said he didn’t want to go around with a CABEZA de CEBOLLA, or (onion head).
All joking set aside – he will always be loved, he will always be missed, and he will never be forgotten.
