The world has lost a remarkable soul with the passing of Beryl on January 10, 2024. At the age of 81, she departed this life to be with the Lord Jesus, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering strength that will be cherished forever.
Born in Kingston Jamaica, on July 5, 1942 Beryl was a beacon of light to all who knew her. A devoted Christian, loving homemaker, and compassionate friend, she touched the lives of many with her kindness and grace. Her journey began in Jamaica, and it was there that she cultivated the values of hard work, dedication, and faith that would guide her throughout her life.
Upon migrating to America with husband Harry Briscoe, Beryl left behind her dream of becoming a registered nurse, a testament to her resilience and determination. With the unwavering support of her husband, she achieved success and prosperity, eventually settling in California and attaining a comfortable, upper middle-class lifestyle in Cerritos. Her dedication to her aspirations and her family was unwavering, and her impact on those around her was immeasurable.
Once her husband retired from being a financial advisor they returned to Jamaica to live out a lavish life style. Their executive American style home was built on top of a hillside to include a spectacular view of the harbor in downtown Kingston. While there she was able to resume her relationship with her family already residing there. This included her father, William Smith, sister and grandnephew Pauline & Paul Smith, brother and sister-in-law Eddie & Claudette Smith; and a host of cousins and friends.
Following the passing of her beloved husband, Beryl returned to America to spend her remaining years in the company of her daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons. Her strength and selflessness were evident even as she faced numerous health challenges, including diabetes, high blood pressure, dementia, and congestive heart failure. Despite these adversities, she remained a pillar of love and support for her family, always putting their needs before her own.
Beryl will be deeply missed by her children, her grandchildren, her extended family, and a wide circle of friends. Her warmth, honesty, and unwavering loyalty left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a shining example of faith and resilience, and her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to be touched by her presence.
In the words of the Apostle Paul, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7). Beryl lived a life that exemplified these virtues, and her memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
May she rest in peace, and may her legacy of love and devotion continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she leaves behind. Our beloved Beryl, you will be deeply missed, but your spirit will live on in our memories and prayers. Amen.
She is survived by her loving daughter Lesan Rhodius and son Donahue Charlton; three grandchildren Misha Charlton, Andrew and Andre Rhodius; great grandchildren Kiara Ashley and Kievon Rochester; one brother Eddie Smith; two sisters Jean Smith and Pauline Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
