Billie Lou Sweger, 94, died on December 11, 2013 at her home at Air Force Village West. She was born March 11th, 1919 to LeRoy and Eva Lindsey in Ignacio, Colorado on the Ute Indian Reservation, the youngest of eight children.
When she was a young girl her family moved to Canon City, Colorado where she spent her school years. Following graduation from Canon City High School, she continued her education at Western State Teachers College in Gunnison, Colorado. After graduating she taught school for a short time, then joined the American Red Cross and in 1946 she met and married Robert Sweger, an Air Force Officer. As a military wife she had the opportunity to live and teach school in many places in the United Sates and overseas. They moved to Riverside in 1963. Mrs. Sweger retired in 1979 from the Riverside Unified School District.
Her interests included music, reading, socializing with friends and family, and participating in church activities. She was a member of Victoria Presbyterian Church for 50 years.
Mrs. Sweger was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years in 2002, and her son, Gene, in 2004. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maxine & Paul Newlove of Hemet, CA and grandchildren, Robert and Vilma Newlove of San Jacinto, CA, Susan Newlove of Camas, WA and William Sweger of Riverside, CA. Her family loved her so very much and will miss her wonderful sense of humor and zest for life.
Viewing will be on December 20th between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm, at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, CA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 21st at 1:00 p.m., AFVW Protestant Chapel Fellowship, 17050 Arnold Drive, Riverside, CA. Private burial will take place at the Riverside National Cemetery on Monday, December 23rd.
