November 28, 1913 - April 17, 2015
Proceeded in Death by Mother Stella E. Francis, Father Rev. David Jesse Richard Francis and Husband Wesley G. Brown
Survived by her four children Anna Sue Barton, John Wesley Brown, Martha Jane Carmichael, David Jessie Richard Brown, and her 32 Grandchildren.
Born and raised in Arkansas, Carthyl met Wesley Brown when they were just children. In January of 1932, when she was 19, the two wed and began their family.
Anna Sue was born in 1933, followed by John Wesley in 1940, Martha Jane in 1944, and finally David Jessie Richard in 1948.
In 1951 the couple decided to move their family out west and they landed in Riverside, California, where they lived for a year before heading to San Antonio, Texas.
The stay in Texas also only lasted a year before deciding to go back to Riverside, California where they bought a house and remained while their two youngest were in elementary school.
In the late 1950’s the couple sold that home and move one more time finally settling in Oceanside California. Carthyl raised the kids while Wesley worked, and as the kids grew and moved out,
starting families of their own she decided to join the workforce as a seamstress.
Being an only child growing up, Carthyl loved having a large family. She would have family gatherings at her house where everyone would bring their guitars, and she would play her piano or
keyboard. The sounds of laughter and music could be heard from down the street. Carthyl also loves sharing old pictures and telling stories, reading her bible, and writing in her journals.
Carthyl and Wesley were married for 59 years when Wesley passed away in 1991. She remained in their home for several years and when she was nearly 90 years old, she sold the house and moved
back to riverside where she lived with her son John and his wife Hawley for a few years. After leaving their house she moved in with her daughter Martha and her husband John, where she remained
until her passing at 101 years of age. In the end she was surrounded by family, and left this world knowing how loved she truly was.
