Many fond memories with you were from our time playing Mario Party. We used to spend all night gaming and laughing with you and your family. We will miss you.

We met what seems like an eternity ago, way back in High School, and while we weren’t close then, everything changed once we graduated and made our way toward university. 

To say the least, higher education took its toll on both of us. Through common hardship, we found common ground. You got me through one of my darkest moments in life. I remember feeling hopeless until we started exchanging runaway emails, texts and calls brimming with stories, art, poetry, and music - all punctuated by the ocasional psychosis. I smile back at all those late night rants about everything and anything under the sun, under the stars.

The cosmos was one of our first conversations. In college, we would escape to campus rooftops to take refuge in the night. Although we were at different schools, we bonded under the same moon.

You were such a beautiful thinker, writer, speaker and illustrator. I loved listening to the wheels of your mind turn. You were one of the few people who could make pen sing on paper. With you, conversations were 1 part sugar and 2 parts spice. With you, art was masterpiece after masterpiece. 

You once told me you wanted to be an artist. Someone somewhere once said “Art is meant to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed.” I hope you know you accomplished your dream. Your life was art in the sense that it provoked and brought peace to the wayward. Your canvas was everyone around you.

You often joked about how small and meek you were. But you were larger than life to me. You were the joker, traveler, anime nerd, stargazer, bookworm, flower-lover, philosopher, gamer, and job-juggler. 

No one can hold a candle to you. 

This isn’t a goodbye. I know when someone passes, they don’t disappear. I know when someone takes their final rest, they awake.

Happy birthday, dear friend.

Thinking of you every day and I love you so much. These are two items that Johnny sent to a family member years ago that I now have. Johnny we love you so much. You changed so many people’s lives and taught everyone things, and even some how to save money, math, etc! You gave us your treasured energy that you didn’t have much of because you loved us all so much. Thinking of you always

Lincoln and Johnny are together now in spirit. Lincoln crossed the rainbow bridge recently. My heart breaks for Lincoln‘s mom. We will all be reunited in spirit one day. Until then, give Lincoln hugs for us Johnny

I've had a tab on my phone open to this memorial for over 4 months now but haven't been able to bring myself to engage with it until now.

Johnny was a one of my favorite people. They were one of the most creative, funny, genuine, and kind people I've known. We were always making each other laugh in the dumbest ways, like this ongoing Titanic-style inside joke pose we had for over a decade. I regret that we lost touch for several years after college, but I'm so glad we reconnected over the past three years. I miss your laugh and your excitement for all things space and your lectures about the one time I didn't apply your sunscreen right and you got a sunburn. I love you and miss you, Johnny.

I knew Johnny as "Choo" when they and my daughter were close friends in high school.  They were one of my favorites of my daughter's friends! I remember Choo as funny, intelligent and so kind. Several years ago, when I was sad when one of my chinchillas died. Johnny/Choo wrote a note that my chinchilla was "chin chillin in the sky!" The kindness brought smiles and tears. I am so sorry to hear of this huge loss to all the family and friends. God Speed and lasting love Choo

Earlier this year, Johnny had been sharing about her experiences in Japan on the phone. She described this red camellia with striations she had fallen in love with there. She send this photo to me by text after the conversation to give me a visual of it. Now, I am treasuring this and want to find it to plant in my garden.


Johnny, you were one of the best friends I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. We never had any real crazy adventures together, but I will always cherish the little things like us watching terrible movies or you being my own personal Gordon Ramsey as I fumbled to make carbonara. Even after you moved out of San Francisco, it was part of my nightly routine to talk to you on the phone. Whether it be for 5 minutes or 5 hours. There's so much more I wanted to do or say with you, but I wouldn't trade the time we spent together for anything. 

This photo doesn’t include a sunset, but beaches make me think of sun and Johnny loved the colors red, orange and general sunset colors. I love you so much Johnny my inner core is stone without you. Sending my love and my spirit to you Johnny 

I took this picture in Joshua Tree in April. Johnny was so excited to take their telescope to the desert and gaze at the stars. A couple of curious people saw us around the telescope and Johnny happily showed them the Moon and several stars and planets. 

You were always so kind and caring to us, and you had the best jokes. And you were always the coolest member of our friend group. I can't believe I'll never get to see you make one of your trademark silly faces again, or hear that cackling witch laugh again, or hear you talk about one of the countless amazing adventures you'd been on. Thank you for being an amazing friend. I love you Johnny and I miss you so much.

November rain but you were undaunted as the hot tub called to you. Thank you for your light, thank you for sharing with me, thank you for loving my son. I wish I’d known that weekend would be our only time together. I sensed your pain, but naively thought our love and friendship could see you through. But your life and transition has reminded me that we are all just walking eachother home.

I will always remember the sleep overs we had, almost every weekend you were at my house or I was at yours. All the japanese food we would try to cook, the countless packs of ramen we went through. The imaginary battles we would have in my backyard, pretending we were in some sort of narnia war  with mythical creatures; pulling each other around in the wagon with all of our snacks. Our countless talks of going to japan when we were just wee little teenagers. Hours of phone calls even if we didn't speak we just sat there with each other until someone's phone died or someone else needed to use it. 
I loved spending time with you, I loved spending time with your family for all the years that we were glued together. I'm sorry we did not stay in touch much over the years, I wish we did, I wish I had tried harder to find you again, I did try to find you. I did love you,  I do love you and.. I always will love you
