I regret not being able to attend David Greenwood's celebration of life.  I was David's basketball coach the last two years  of his career at UCLA.  David was very talented and the best player on our team.   David was very likeable and had a quiet, funny sense of humor.  David was a great team player, outstanding student and gentleman.  He was a first team All American and was drafted as the second player in the NBA.  He was named to the All Rookie first team with Chicago and had a distinguished twelve year career.  I nominated him for the National Associated Coaches Hall of Fame and he was inducted in 2021.  I have fond memories of David and he will be missed by all of us.  Blessings on David and may he rest in peace.

I met David as a freshman at UCLA through my roommate who knew him from a class they shared.  Although it has been many years since I've seen him, I have fond memories of the times we spent together.  We teased each other mercilessly--all in good fun--and we laughed a lot.  I remember him as a generous, smart, funny person who was always down-to-earth in spite of his basketball successes.
My heartfelt condolences to his family, especially his children.  Please know that more people than you can imagine remember him as a fine man who touched countless lives.

One of the most meaningful figures in my life was my basketball coach, David Greenwood, who left a lasting imprint on my heart. He didn’t just teach me how to dribble, shoot, or hustle on the court, he treated me like his own daughter. He believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, pushed me when I thought I had nothing left to give, and celebrated my victories like they were his own. Whether it was a tough game or a tough day, he was there with words of wisdom, a steady presence, and unwavering support. I’ll never forget how safe, seen, and encouraged he made me feel. His guidance went far beyond basketball as he helped shape who I am. I carry his lessons with me every day, and I’ll always be grateful for the love and belief he gave so freely.

I always had a love for my teammate David Greenwood, who I would call “Greens”. Being a senior when David was a freshman, he was open to advice and encouragement as I knew the minute I saw him play  that he would eventually start on an NBA latent team with the potential to win a national championship that year. With David’s  young talent helping us ; we made it to the Final Four.

From afar, I always hoped for the best for him, because those special times I spent with him at UCLA left  a mark with me  David was a fine young man and time moved on he remained one of the good guys. I will miss just knowing he was here with us. His memory will live on in my heart. … We lost a Good one … Prayer for and Love ❤️ to  his family.

Coach Greenwood taught me how to be patient and to keep my opinion do myself. The things I learned from him has benefited me way beyond the court. It's hars because I've been trying to get in contact with him for years and then I read this news last week. Greenwood left a great legacy at the Verb not just while playing, but while coaching as well.

There are so many beautiful memories I shared with my daddy, but one of my favorites is how he would always send me roses on Valentine’s Day. Each bouquet came with an inspirational note, a reminder that he loved me and was always thinking of me. I’ve cherished every single flower and every word he ever wrote. His love was constant, thoughtful, and deeply felt.

David and I worked together at Don Lugo High School. He was the Head Basketball Coach and I was the Head Football Coach. I treasure the many converations we had regarding parenthood, coaching, and sharing stories of our playing days. He was a very pleasant person with a good sense of humor that I am not sure that many know about. I feel fortunate to have had him in my life during that time. The Setlich Family wishes the Greenwood Family our blessing and love during this time of reflection.

Dave was always a gentle GIANT and Gentleman . He and Joyce have hosted me and my family many times in their homes over the years…. San Antonio, LA, Chicago . He took myself and his beautiful wife to see a Blues concert featuring our favorite blues artist Bobby Bland. We loved his warm loving spirit. He shall always be missed and loved.
