Elizabeth Anne (Marley) Eldridge died peacefully in her sleep in Riverside, California, on April 21, 2020 at the age of 97. Known to most everyone as “Betty,” “Mom” or “Nana,” this matriarch of the Eldridge family was a kind and gentle soul who served as a role model for all.
Betty was born March 7, 1923 in Newark, New Jersey, to Edward Gregson and Rosena (Sheridan) Marley, who preceded her in death, as did her brothers P. Joseph and Edward T., and sister Rosemary Marley.
She met the love of her life, Henry Ronald Eldridge, a dashing army captain, through one of her brothers and they were married during wartime in November 1943. Since their vows, they were inseparable for 61 years until Ron’s death in 2004. Together they raised four children: Judith Sumner (Thomas), Linda Peterson, Joan Eldridge (Roger Baker), and Ronald Eldridge (Diane). Sadly, her daughter Linda preceded her in death just this past January. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, with another one soon on the way!
Betty lived in New Jersey until the family moved to Northridge, California, in 1958. Later, they also moved to Newport Beach and Murrieta, California. A devout Catholic, no matter where Betty lived she was always active in her church and parish, volunteering at the schools, teaching religious education, facilitating the RENEW faith formation program and so much more! She was also a consummate mother and grandmother who loved her family and children with all her heart and instilled life lessons and values that carry them to this day.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no service at this time. More formal arrangements will be made at a later date.
Betty will be interred beside her husband Ron at Riverside National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in her memory and honor.
